“…pray constantly…” 1 Thess 5,17
The pilgrim was touched by these words. He couldn´t stop thinking of them. The Jesus Prayer is a way of staying in contact with God.
There are three passages with the phrase “Jesus Christ is Lord”:
Rom 10,9 “…that if you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved.”
1 Cor 12,3 “…and nobody is able to say, `Jesus is Lord´ except in the Holy Spirit.”
Phil 2,11 “…and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of the Father.”
[The above quotations are from the New Jerusalem Bible]
The Jesus Prayer mentions the name of Jesus but it also includes God the Father (He is worshipped) and the Holy Spirit inspires the prayer. It is a Trinity prayer.
